About 1166 Bay Street — 1166 Bay St
Looking for a building with old-world charm and the square footage that comes with it? Welcome to 1166 Bay Street.
Located on the border of two highly sought-after neighbourhoods — Yorkville and Yonge and Bloor — this 22-storey building has provided spacious homes to residents since 1981. The exterior is reminiscent of older condo designs — a brown brick structure with large bay windows, and a circular drive up that you might expect to find at a hotel. But don’t let the dark exterior fool you, because this building has a lot to offer the modern condo buyer.
Amenities include valet parking, pool, sauna, air conditioning, gym, and a security guard to watch the front door. These suites are large by any standard, the smallest of which is an expansive 2000 sq. ft. Another enticing feature of this building is the limit of 5 units per floor, ensuring that residents do not feel like they are living on top of their neighbours.
1166 Bay is a wonderful location for couples, young and old. The building is pedestrian friendly, offering an opportunity to get some exercise while running errands, instead of fighting your way through traffic in your car.
The Suites
1166 Bay Street contains 103 downtown Toronto condos, available in 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and 3 bedroom units. Layouts vary based on seven different blueprints, but all suites are spacious and functionally designed. Suites feature crown moldings, hardwood floors — in chevron, checkered, and linear patterns — an ensuite bathroom off the master bedroom, and an eat in kitchen.
Most units are in the 2200 sq. ft range, with a few that exceed 4000 sq. ft. Toronto condos for sale in this building don't see a lot of turnover due to their size and desirable location, so renovations depend on past occupants; however, even a dated unit can be transformed into something beautiful and will likely be a great return on investment.
The Neighbourhood
Residents of this building get to pick their neighbourhood but nobody can blame them if they choose to claim the section north of Bloor as their own: Yorkville has long been established as one of the — if not the most — desirable neighbourhoods in Toronto. From spacious high-end condos to multi-million-dollar penthouses, residents of this community take pride in calling it home.
One of the best-known assets of Yorkville is its shopping experience. The “mink-mile” which extends along Bloor Street, has all the upscale designers with powerful name recognition like Gucci, Coach, Louis Vuitton and many others. Within this community you’ll have an unbelievable selection of restaurants, some of which are known to be frequented by celebrities — Joso’s has received plenty of mentions, including an entry in Drake’s “5AM in Toronto.”
There's more to Yorkville than shopping centres and restaurants; the neighbourhood borders the Rosedale Ravine, where picturesque walking trails connect to a series parks and greenspaces. There are baseball diamonds, an outdoor rink in the winter, and plenty of choices for recreational activities.
From 1166 Bay you have exciting options for nightlife in every direction. To the west you will find the Madison Avenue Pub, a popular hangout university students — 3 British styled pubs crammed into a mansion… what more could you want? To the north you have the pilot, a jazz bar with a diverse menu and a rooftop patio. To the east you have the Bishop and Belcher — a pub with an awesome menu and a huge drink list. And if you head south from Yonge street, you’ll find the best of what Toronto nightlife has to offer.
Transportation
A Walk Score of 99 — mic drop. In all seriousness, this building offers people who work downtown an opportunity to live, work and play without the need for travelling around the city.
1166 Bay is a great location for TTC riders. The Bloor-Yonge subway terminal is only minutes away from your elevator doors, connecting you to streetcar routes, or union station for GO transit. Shorter trips will be easy thanks north and southbound buses on Bay Street.
Bikers can use the lanes on Bloor, St. George street, or the more bike-friendly lanes on College Street.
Drivers have the unique luxury or valet parking at 1166 Bay, and a secure parking garage to keep their vehicle free from the elements. The Don Valley parkway can be reached by travelling east on Bloor and taking Danforth ramp. The Gardiner Expressway is only a short trip south on Yonge, to the Jarvis Street on-ramp.
