About 1177 Yonge Street — The Ports
In the heart of the Summerhill neighbourhood, the Ports Condos has long been a popular place to call home for some time now. Of course this doesn't mean they’re often on the market: developed by a pair of investment groups, Mastway and Ridgeway, these luxurious and enviably located homes at 1177 Yonge Street are beloved by their residents.
A low-rise 7 storey structure, the Ports Condos boasts a remarkably stylish modern structure. Built in 1985, the building takes over a sizeable portion of Yonge Street. Despite the building’s breadth, the symmetrical design gives a distinctly soft impression — there are very few sharp corners to be found. Instead, the northern and southern sides feature rounded ends, with stunning sets of windows set along the curves.
Toward the centre of the Port Condos, the tiered structure showcases a series of private terraces. The design then culminates in a large terrace, nestled above the condo's private entrance. This outdoor common area sits above the ground-level retail businesses, and tucked behind some lush, tall trees.
Residents also enjoy access to a spectacular set of amenities. The condo offers access to a 24-hour concierge service, an exercise room with saunas, as well as a exclusive park. Yes, this communal outdoor space can only be called a park since it’s so much more than the ubiquitous condominium courtyard. 1177 Yonge’s grassy fields feature lush natural landscapes, where there’s space to barbecue, eat, and lounge in the sun, plus there’s even a tennis court.
The Suites
As exceptional as the grounds are, the 106 units in the building prove to be enticing in their own right. Ranging in size from around 850 to 1,700 square feet, the suites consist of one- and two-bedroom floor plans, some of which extend outside onto private terraces and balconies.
The suites themselves vary significantly in terms of style, which is not surprising considering how many of the residents have customized their homes to their tastes over the years. Regardless, these living spaces all boast bright and airy atmospheres, with many windows and even some skylights in the penthouse suites. Additionally, some suites even feature a wood-burning fireplace, adding more warmth to the building's welcoming ambiance — a feature seldom found in Toronto condos for sale.
The Neighbourhood
At at Summerhill Avenue and Yonge, a prominent corner in the Summerhill neighbourhood, residents can enjoy a vibrant city life in midtown Toronto. While the scene around the intersection of Yonge and St. Clair is convenient when seeking out global chains and brand name stores, Summerhill is also home to many eclectic boutiques and local eateries, highlighted by the offerings near Scrivener Square.
A short walk south of 1177 Yonge, set beside North Toronto Station — a gorgeous heritage building, now housing a massive LCBO — a group of gourmet markets sit along Yonge. Affectionately called “The Five Thieves,” since their products are so alluring, the Ports Condos’ residents may grow quite familiar with these thieves, especially since they’re less than a five-minute walk from home.
Transportation
Although the nearby North Toronto Station is no longer the city’s major transit hub, public transportation still serves those living in the Ports Condos well. Summerhill Subway Station sits on the south end of the block, accessible from Shaftesbury Avenue. Trains from Summerhill run north and south through the city, along the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway line. And for those venturing to the east or west end, the Bloor-Danforth line is about a five-minute ride south, at Bloor-Yonge Station.
Alternatively, for those who prefer to drive, 1177 Yonge is well situated. Drivers live far from the busier traffic in the downtown core, which they can completely bypass when accessing the highway: instead of using the popular onramp at Bloor for the Don Valley Parkway, drivers can take Aylmer Avenue, which is just a few blocks south. Aylmer soon becomes Rosedale Valley Road, and leads to Bayview Avenue where drivers can connect to the DVP – usually taking less than ten minutes in total.
