About 150 Farnham Avenue — The Dorchester
The Dorchester Condos at 150 Farnham Avenue offer residents the opportunity to live in one of Toronto’s admired residential neighborhoods, with all of the added conveniences of a condominium lifestyle. Sitting just south of the intersection of Avenue Road and St. Clair Avenue, The Dorchester exhibits a timeless quality, and Toronto condos for sale in the building are attractive to anyone who's looking to settle down just north of the downtown core.
Built in 1972, The Dorchester shows off a unique art-deco style that is rarely seen in Toronto condos today, with its yellow brick façade and circular windows. A stone path through a landscaped courtyard garden leads to the lobby, an elegant and inviting space that continues the building’s art-deco aesthetic.
The Dorchester boasts a surprising number of amenities for a building of its size. Here, residents have access to underground parking, a full gym and exercise studio, as well as a pool and sauna.
The Suites
There are a total of 75 units located within the 5 storey building and these suites range from around 300 to 1100 square feet. Units at 150 Farnham come equipped with 1 bedroom with 1 bathroom, or 2 bedrooms with 1 bathroom. One of the best features of the suites is the abundance of windows found in each, bathing the spacious and open interiors in natural light.
Although the building's exterior exhibits a tasteful, yet vintage quality, many of its suites have been renovated to meet the expectations of current prospective buyers. Certain units feature hardwood floors in bedrooms and living spaces, granite tile floors can be found in glossy bathrooms, and renovated kitchens contain modern appliances and generously sized windows.
The Neighbourhood
The building can be found right in the Yonge and St. Clair neighbourhood near Deer Park, a laid-back area with quick and easy access to any area of Toronto. Although the wild deer that once roamed the area have been replaced by less than friendly automobiles, Deer Park still retains the serene charm that has always drawn residents to living here.
A number of restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores and boutiques can be found throughout the area, with businesses for running errands available as well, such as banks, pharmacies and hardware stores. In fact, one of the city's most popular upscale eateries, Scaramouche, is just a short walk south from 150 Farnham.
For evening or weekend entertainment, there are quite a number of galleries and museums like Casa Loma or Spadina House nearby. The closest movie theatre is just a couple of subway stops away, at Bay and Bloor, while another can be found north in the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood.
Parks are plentiful in this area. Smaller parkettes like Robertson Davies Park are a brief walk away from the building, while larger parks like Ramsden Park or David A. Balfour Park are also within reach. Quite a number of schools (of private, public and Montessori varieties) also service the area, such as Deer Park, The Brown School and Upper Canada College, as well as numerous daycares.
Transportation
The centrality of The Dorchester and its close proximity to public transportation makes moving around the area a breeze. The St. Clair subway station is about a 10-minute walk from the building, and TTC bus stops can be found nearby along Avenue Road, ready to escort passengers north or south. Additionally, streetcars heading east or west can be used to ride along St. Clair.
Cyclists can access bike paths nearby at David A. Balfour Park which connect to the larger Beltline trail. For drivers, the nearest highway is the Don Valley Parkway, which can be accessed via Bayview Avenue.
