About 212 St George Street — Powell House
Built in 1907, Powell Manor was originally a private residence. In the early 1980s the manor was renovated, and an addition was built on to the back of the building, transforming this property into a heritage condominium. It now houses 11 townhome residences and 30 downtown toronto condos — it is unbelievable to think that this manor was once a single family home, but you can bet that games of hide and seek were a war of attrition.
Despite undergoing renovations, this building has managed to hang onto much of its character; from its weathered brick exterior to its original foyer in the entryway, there are many historical touches to be found throughout this property.
212 St. George is located in The Annex neighbourhood — a community with tall trees, parks, and beautiful homes. Most of this building is concealed from the street and surrounded by trees, giving residents an added feeling of privacy. This building has some surprising amenities, which include a fitness room, saunas, rooftop terrace, and parking garage.
These condos are an amazing choice for anyone who loves historical architecture and wants a unique property in an excellent area. Condos are available for rent and for sale, but you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled if you want to scoop up one of these desirable units.
The Suites
212 St. George street offers 1 bedroom, 1 bedroom + den, and 2 bedroom units. Condos range from cozy 297 sq ft 1 bedroom units to 1080 for a 2 bedroom. Units are modernly designed, with new kitchens, hardwood floors, private balconies and large windows.
Those who are fortunate enough to land Toronto condos for sale inside of the manor, have large bay windows, fireplaces, crown moldings and historic light fixtures.
The Neighbourhood
The Annex is primarily a residential community but one which has trendy cafes, amazing restaurants, and lively bars. Being in such close proximity to the University of Toronto campus, makes this community an excellent location for students and not just for convenience of travel. The Annex neighbourhood reflects both campus and residential life, so students are sure to find entertainment options that take the stress out of studying for exams.
For nightlife, there is the Madison Pub — a mansion containing 3 British styled pubs that see a fair amount of student traffic —Bar Begonia is on Dupont for cocktails and comfort food, and then there is the Duke of York, which has served drinks in the community for over 40 years. Poor house Pub and kitchen is also on Dupont, which is a traditional Irish Alehouse with a rooftop patio and live music. Speaking of music — concert goers will be in their glee with the famous Lee’s Palace only a 15 minute walk from their front door.
There's more to the Annex than student living, as this neighbourhood boasts many options for couples and families. “Who is making dinner tonight?” might be one of the most dangerous questions in the history of humankind and has certainly started many arguments for married couples — 212 St. George cannot answer that question or you, but it affords its residents some great alternatives to cooking. If you’re in the mood for Italian, there is Ristorante Soto Soto Toronto and L'Unità Enoteca on Avenue Road, or Mistura on Davenport. Vegans will be at home at Live Organic Food Bar for brunch or takeout. And for those who really need a craft beer and a hearty meal — check out Chadwick’s Craft Kitchen & Bar on Howland Avenue.
Culture seekers can visit the Royal Ontario Museum and sample the latest exhibitions or continue on Bloor and up to Hazelton Avenue, where you will find several Art Galleries.
Green spaces are plentiful in Annex, from 212 St. George Street you have Jean Sibelius Square to the west, Huron Street Playground and Taddle Creek Park to the south, and if you’re in need of a larger green space; Queen’s Park is only a 20 minute from your front door.
Transportation
The Annex is a great location for walkers. 212 St. George has a Walk Score of 91, so you can expect to accomplish most of your daily errands within your community.
Biker’s are certain to love this property, because the area has a bike score of 100 — meaning no hills and great bike lanes in the area, namely those on St. George, College and Wellesley. Fast travel is made easy with the St. George subway, only a 5 minute walk from 212 St. George.
